Each month, as part of our Friday Features articles, we are presenting our pick for Bedtime Book of the Month.
Do you have a little truck-lover at home? If so, then you are going to be excited about our pick for August Bedtime Book of the Month! This month, we are spotlighting ‘Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site’, written by Sherri Duskey Rinker and illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld.
From the Amazon.com book page:
“As the sun sets behind the big construction site, all the hardworking trucks get ready to say goodnight. One by one, Crane Truck, Cement Mixer, Dump Truck, Bulldozer, and Excavator finish their work and lie down to rest—so they’ll be ready for another day of rough and tough construction play! With irresistible artwork by best-selling illustrator Tom Lichtenheld and sweet, rhyming text, this book will have truck lovers of all ages begging for more.”
Published in 2011, this book was an instant hit, climbing to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list in early 2012. Author Sherri Duskey Rinker, a graphic designer and mom, says that she is constantly inspired by the passions of her two boys. No doubt those passions were what led her to write this best-selling book.
As someone who has read this book to her own children, and who enjoyed it thoroughly, I can tell you that the gentle, lilting rhymes in this book are just right for bedtime. And the illustrations, done in soft lines and muted colors, create a warm and dreamy feeling that will have your little one feeling relaxed and snuggly in no time.
What’s more, your tiny truck fan will no doubt fall in love with the distinct personalities of each truck. Don’t be surprised if, after reading this, you find your little one gathering up his trucks and reenacting scenes from the book!
