Spring Fever Mother’s Day Giveaway

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Mother's Day GiveawaySpring is here and Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. Mother’s day for me has never really been about presents or taking the day off from kids and family. For me, it’s always been a day for me to reflect, appreciate and be extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a Mom. There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than spending the day playing and relishing time with my family. And now that Spring is here, Moms everywhere are gearing up for Springtime activities with kids, maybe some gardening (my sons and I just planted flowers for the porch 2 weeks ago), spring cleaning and taking in the sights of flowers blooming. What Moms may be missing out on though is more sleep, better sleep, or just some plain old splurging on herself. We want to help change that so we’ve put together this Mother’s Day Giveaway! Join us in this celebration of Moms everywhere for all that we do and for the heaps of unconditional time and love we give to our children and families.

Mother’s love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved. ~Erich Fromm

So, for this Mother’s Day Giveaway, come celebrate with us and enter to win some fantastic prizes. Directions for how to enter follow the prize list.

Grand Prize- $100 Gift Certificate to Target OR Amazon

We considered what the grand prize for our Mother’s Day Giveaway should be. A spa gift package? TargetGiftCardA gift card out for dinner? In the end though, we thought that rather than pick something out for mom, we’d let mom pick out something for herself. So, take the money and run! Splurge on just you for your special day. Choose your gift card from Target or Amazon.

Good Nite Lite

Good Nite LightThe Good Nite Lite is the perfect nightlight for helping toddlers get into a healthy sleep pattern. This nightlight features a nighttime moon light that is set at bedtime to give off a soft blue glow that provides enough light to soothe your child but is not too bright as to inhibit sleeping. Parents can then set the light for a specific wake-up time and the sun lights up letting your baby or toddler learn and understand that until the sun lights up, it is still sleep time. The Good Nite Lite is a great visual cue for young children to begin moving from waking up too early and interfering with getting a full night’s rest. You can find more information and ordering this product at www.goodnitelite.com. A Good Nite Lite will go to one lucky winner.

Little Keeper Sleeper

Little Keeper SleeperThis product has been referred to as the “sanity saving sleeper!”  It’s really called the Little Keeper Sleeper & it’s designed to prevent unwanted removal of sleepers & diapers.  Too many parents go into their kids rooms in the morning to find their kids undressed and/or the crib & walls have been decorated – and not with beautiful paint! This sleeper is unlike any other with 3 key features to keep the little Houdinis in these jammies.

The winner of the Little Keeper Sleeper will get to select the style and size of their choice. Check them out at www.littlekeepersleeper.com to see product photos and read incredible testimonials from parents of toddlers & those with special needs.

Beautiful Creatures CD- Music from South Africa

Beautiful Creatures MusicBeautiful Creatures was formed in South Africa by Alan Glass, Ed Jordan and Paul Choritz who felt there was a need for “Parent Friendly” children’s music.

In a fast paced world where parents and children have limited quality time, Beautiful Creature’s mission is to bring families together offering a uniquely South African brand with an educational and positive message. We were able to listen to this CD and loved it! These songs are catchy with great drum beats that quickly get everyone moving and singing along.  This album would be great for an afternoon dance off or for long car drives.

Beautiful Creatures will be giving away 10 copies of this album to our readers. Take a look at their website for more information about their music and to listen to samples.

Tot Yoga

Looking for something fun and healthy to do with your baby or toddler?  Tot Yoga DVDs focus on yoga for children 10 months old to 3 years old.  The DVD includes three distinct sections. The first two sections help parents learn to utilize playtime, increase exercise and reduce stress to help encourage wind down for peaceful napping. The gentle stretches and poses also help parents to warm up for a more complete yoga work out after their child has laid down. The first section of the DVD is designed to help parents learn the natural movements of their child for stretches and poses. The second section focuses on the parent helping engage the child in relaxing movements and is followed by the third section which is a more vigorous yoga for the parent. You can find out more about Tot Yoga on their website and watch sample videos.

One winner will receive a copy of Tot Yoga.

Spring Forward, Sleep Awareness Week, and a Giveaway!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Happy National Sleep Awareness Week! Oh, you don’t celebrate this holiday? Well, technically, neither do I.

I make it a point all year round to stress the importance healthy sleep habits for our families. I can bet that because you’re a parent who has come to this site, that you have learned (maybe the hard way) just how sleep deprivation takes a toll on your mind, body, and soul, and how your baby’s development flourishes when he’s getting enough rest. In a sleep-deprived state you aren’t as alert, probably more cranky, less energetic to play with your kids, and probably angry more often. You might even be depressed. It might even affect your marriage. You might even feel like you don’t like your baby some days. I hear all this and more, and I feel for each and every one of you!

The National Sleep Foundation is a big promoter of National Sleep Awareness Week and has released their “Sleep in America” poll results today. They studied four different ethnic groups and their sleep habits and attitudes towards sleep. Interestingly enough, in all four groups, only 4 in 10 said they get a good night sleep every night or almost every night. I suspect that if they studied parents, this number would be even lower! Another interesting result of the poll is that most adults believe their sleep issues will go away on their own over time. I would say this is true a lot of time about parents and their child’s sleep issues: that you believe (or hope) the issues will go away over time. Oh how I wish that was always the case! You can read more 2010 Sleep and Ethnicity Poll Results here.

National Sleep Awareness Week ends with a bang with Daylight Savings starting this weekend (if you are in the U.S.). We “Spring Forward” and lose one precious hour of our day. I know some of you might be jumping for joy when your 5 a.m. riser will now be waking past 6 a.m., but I also know some of you know that schedule changes always seem to set you and your family back. If you are worried about the time change or want to know what to expect from your baby or toddler this summer when it stays light later, please review your Spring Forward with Child Sleep Tips on WorkingMother.com, written by yours truly.

But, wait! There’s more!

I can’t let this week go by without giving you an opportunity to get more sleep for you and your family, so in honor of “Spring Forward” and National Sleep Awareness Week, I’m doing a quick and easy giveaway. Comment with a brief description of your sleep story by Sunday, March 14th at 11:59 p.m. below for a chance to win:

1. A one-week unlimited e-mail consultation package (Value $79)
2. A five-email consultation package (Value $49.95)
3. A copy of Mastering Naps & Schedules(Value $24) (Giving away two!)
4. A copy of Help Your Child Sleep, a Step by Step Guide(Value $27) (Giving away two!)
5. A 3-month membership to the Members Area, which includes access to all e-Books, case studies, tele-seminars, and much more! (Value $24) (Giving away two!)

I will be reading your story and trying to find the most apropos family for each prize, so I can really make a difference in your lives. Good luck and happy sleeping!

Making Sure Baby Sleeps During the Holidays (Warning: Free stuff mentioned)

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Baby Sleep SantaThe holidays are tricky for your baby’s sleep. Grandma and grandpa want to spend time with the little fella, since they don’t get to see him that much. Or, you have two parties to go to on the same day, babysitters galore, or you have a lot of family members over making it really loud during nap time. Some people even like to get babysitters just to go Christmas shopping, especially those of you with more than one kid or twins or triplets, or more! After all, keeping your eye on two kids running around makes it THAT much harder to actually look for gifts to buy for people (believe me, I know!). That’s one reason I do most of my shopping online, these days. :D You might think that I often link to Amazon because I’m an affiliate (I get a very small percentage of sales at no cost to you), but I actually LOVE Amazon! I’m an Amazon Prime member and my holiday shopping alone more than pays for it, not to mention all the birthdays, sleep books I want to read, etc. throughout the year.

If you travel during the holidays, this can make many parents anxious and I tend to get a lot of questions about it around this time of the year. Don’t fret. There are things you can do to make the transition easier including making “away” as much like “home” as possible, being consistent in your routines, and getting back to normal as much as possible when you get back. If you have holiday visitors, try including grandma or grandpa in the routines by letting them read the bedtime stories. For more tips on your baby’s sleep, please visit MomCentral this year where I go into your baby’s sleep and the holidays in more detail.

To help some of you even more during the holidays, I’ve decided to give the gift of sleep this year by giving away the following:

•   Two copies of my e-Book, Help Your Child Sleep, a Step-by-Step Guide, to help a tired family with their nighttime troubles.
(Value: $28.50)

•   Two copies of my e-Book, Mastering Naps & Schedules, to help a tired family with their baby’s nap struggles or to help establish a routine.
(Value: $24.95)

•   Two 3-month memberships to my exclusive Members Area, where you gain access to all our e-Books, case studies, weekly expert advice by yours truly, and much MUCH more!
(Value: $18)

AND

•   Two two-email personalized consultation packages, where I customize a sleep plan for your specific situation. I promise we can get a lot done in just two e-mail! Read other parent stories. (You can also feel free to save these to use later, too)
(Value: $24.95)

AND

•   Your choice of a $57.20 Target or Amazon gift card (so the total prizes equal $250 just because I’m a little anal and silly like that. Go ahead and check my math. I used Excel! :D )
(Value: $57.20)

Why am I giving away so much? It’s the holidays, we should all be generous and I LOVE helping people with their sleep struggles, that’s why!

How can you win one of these lovely prizes? Just leave a comment below and I’ll randomly choose winners (using random.org).

The deadline to enter is at 8:59 p.m. EST on Tuesday, December 22nd.

Make sure you enter below NOW, forward to all your friends and family, post it on Facebook, and tweet on Twitter! Share! Share! Share! The baby on his dad’s shoulder at the top is reason enough alone to share. Soooo adorable!

(Note: One person / e-mail address can’t win two prizes. If I randomly choose the same person, I’ll choose another winner, to be fair. You can enter up to once a day, though (Max 9 entries).)

Baby Dipper Bowl and Spoon

The Baby Dipper spoon and bowl combo is the genius invention by a mother of two sets of twins which makes it no surprise at all that this set makes feeding baby easy and is perfect to assist The Baby Dippertoddlers with self-feeding. Barbara Schantz invented the Baby Dipper Bowl as a triangular-shaped bowl which enables parent’s to feed with one hand while keeping the other hand free. I’ve tried this bowl with my own son and found it to a huge help at feeding time. The Baby Dipper features a non-slip base which keeps it in place as either me or my son scoops food out of it- making it especially handy for helping my son learn to feed himself. The contoured interior of this bowl also helps to guide food onto the spoon and the transparent sides allow for easy viewing of the food. You can feel good knowing the Baby Dipper is lead-free and phthalate-free and also shatter proof.

Barbara has graciously agreed to provide a Baby Dipper bowl and spoon as part of our SIDS Awareness giveaway. You can find more information on the Baby Dipper at www.babydipper.com.

TheBump, a Mom’s SIDS story, and a pricing change

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

As I mentioned last week, October is SIDS Awareness Month. I’ve been sending out SIDS facts via Twitter and the Facebook Fan page to increase awareness and it has opened up conversations with some parents who have been sadly touched by SIDS. I wanted to share one mom’s story because it touched me so much. Her son would have been 21 this week and she and her four daughters still miss him. Please read her touching blog post this week here: One Word at a Time.

Just a reminder that the SIDS Awareness Month giveaway will end on Sunday, October 18, 8:59 PM EDT. I am pretty surprised at how few entries there are as you have a chance to win a $75 Target Gift Card, a $50 Target Gift Card, and many other prizes! I am also adding in 3 copies of the book: Caution: Children Should Come With Warning Labels, which was written by the woman mentioned above, Patti McKenna. Any proceeds of the book go towards SIDS research. The Baby Sleep Site™ will donate 3 copies to the giveaway. Please enter now by following this link: Enter the giveaway to win!

In lighter news, the The Baby Sleep Site™ blog is a finalist in TheBump’s first annual Mommy Blog Awards!! I actually read and enjoy several of the blogs up against this one, so it’s an honor to be right next to them. Lastly, there is going to be a pricing change on the website. One thing I remember in college is that supply and demand drives the price on pretty much everything. Since there is only me, my supply is running a little low as the Sleep Helpdesk has been busy and I’ve been putting in some late nights. This is very good news because that means I’m really helping a lot of people, which is my main goal here! I do not expect to get rich and really do want to keep everything affordable, but I’m finding the two e-mail package (now $19.95) is probably priced a bit too low. I spend a good 20-30 minutes on the first couple of e-mail and I’m getting super busy. I know another sleep consultant charges $35 for one e-mail and one quick follow-up. I’m not going there right now. My plan is simply raise the price on my two e-mail package (which automatically includes follow-ups) from $19.95 to $24.95 and my five e-mail package from $39.95 to $44.95. This price change will take effect on November 1st. At that point, all existing customers (either book or Helpdesk) will get a separate, private e-mail of a coupon code for $5 off until November 30th, so you can buy more at the original price. Just a little something for loyal customers. You might want to consider buying services now before the price goes up! Get One-on-One Help for your Troubled Sleeper.

As always, I want to thank you for your continued participation in the The Baby Sleep Site™ community! I hope you are finding all the resources you need. Be sure to e-mail me with any article ideas if there is anything you have been looking for and haven’t been able to find. Go ahead and contact me, now!

Have a great weekend!

It’s really easy and right now there is a 29% chance you’ll win (that’s better than 1 in 3!) given not too many people are entering! Survey Results and Summer Pricing

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Thank you to those who completed the recent survey for The Baby Sleep Site™! I have contacted the two $50 Target Gift Card winners via e-mail, so please check your in-boxes. The feedback was extremely valuable and I am very appreciative! There were so many great comments. Here was one of my favorites:

“I think you are GREAT! Love the material. After reading many books, you finally provided me with real material I can use. Your responses to my questions surpassed my expectations. WONDERFUL.”

Here are some of the results of the survey:

* 37% of you came to the site for night-waking and 24% nap issues. No surprise there!

* Most people want more information about naps and sleep training methods.

* Everyone who has used the Sleep Helpdesk Consulting Services have been happy with the results (i.e. not one complaint), but many of you feel they are too expensive.

* Most were very satisfied with my e-Books, but many of you have already read too many books, don’t have time to read, or feel they are too expensive.

* 60% of you want a place to communicate with one another on a message board / forum.

* 52% of you are interested in tele-seminars, while 25% of you are interested in premium content.

And, now for some good news and bad news! The good news is I heard you loud and clear about the pricing on my e-Books. To be honest, it’s been the hardest part about having this website is how to price those. On the one hand, someone can buy your book and e-mail it to their 100 closest friends (not that you are technically supposed to or anything) as opposed to letting one neighbor borrow a physical book. On the other hand, you want it to be affordable to a lot of people. Too cheap and people think it’s horrible before they even buy it (some psychology about sales). I have also compiled what I have read in many sources into one easy-to-read book, so the goal is to save you from buying 3-4 full-length books and instead, just one quick-read (but useful) book, but many of you have already read several books. Tricky.

All that to say that we now have “vacation specials” going on and you can purchase the books at a discount until August 1st (and I promise the 100% guarantee is legit and all you need to do is e-mail me!). If pricing goes well, I may need to make a permanent change. Go ahead and take a look and see for yourself:

Help Your Child Sleep, a Step-by-Step Guide – For those persistent nighttime struggles with a touch of naps

Mastering Naps & Schedules, including over 40 sample schedules

And, now for the bad news. Unfortunately, I’m unable to change the sleep consultation prices. The Sleep Helpdesk is pretty busy, already, and I spend a good 20-30 minutes on many of the e-mail responses (and I type fast!) as they are highly personalized, so I simply can’t afford to reduce the prices. I think many people think two e-mail (which costs $19.95 right now) won’t be enough, but you’d really be surprised how far we can get in just one e-mail!

Lastly, for those who don’t quite understand how the Sleep Helpdesk works (and want to know), I’ve made a tour, video and test login for you to test drive. I welcome feedback on making it more useful, if you have any. Just comment below!

I have taken this survey very seriously. Stay tuned as I work on what’s next for The Baby Sleep Site™ and I want to thank you for your continued participation in the The Baby Sleep Site™ community! I hope you are finding all the resources you need. Be sure to e-mail me with any article ideas if there is anything you have been looking for and haven’t been able to find.

And, finally, a quick reminder that I will be on a much-needed vacation July 25-Aug 1, so the Sleep Helpdesk will be closed, but you can always enter information and I’ll catch up when I get back! If you decide to purchase a 30-day unlimited e-mail package, I will extend your subscription to accommodate my vacation.

Next week you’ll still get the next installment of the Night Terrors and Nightmares Series, even though I will be on the beach. Enjoy! :) May everyone sleep well while I’m gone!

I also wanted to remind you that I will be taking a much-needed vacation this month. I will be gone July 25-Aug 1, so if you are considering getting private, personalized help for your baby or toddler’s sleep issues, please make sure you give us time before my vacation. Visit the baby and toddler sleep consultation services page for more information. If you decide to purchase a 30-day unlimited e-mail package, I will extend your subscription to accommodate my vacation. It might be a great way to get 2 weeks of help with a small break to let things settle with an additional 2 weeks after I get back. I do ask for patience when I get back to give me a few days to catch up, but I promise I will work hard at catching up quickly. Subscription packages will get highest priority.

Lastly, I wanted to let everyone know that Babble Soft, home of the premiere baby care software Baby Insights and Baby Say Cheese, is looking for a new home, so if you ever wanted to own your own business, now might be a great time! If not, if you know of anyone who might be interested, please forward a link to the announcement here:
