Survey Results and Summer Pricing

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Thank you to those who completed the recent survey for The Baby Sleep Site™! I have contacted the two $50 Target Gift Card winners via e-mail, so please check your in-boxes. The feedback was extremely valuable and I am very appreciative! There were so many great comments. Here was one of my favorites:

“I think you are GREAT! Love the material. After reading many books, you finally provided me with real material I can use. Your responses to my questions surpassed my expectations. WONDERFUL.”

Here are some of the results of the survey:

* 37% of you came to the site for night-waking and 24% nap issues. No surprise there!

* Most people want more information about naps and sleep training methods.

* Everyone who has used the Sleep Helpdesk Consulting Services have been happy with the results (i.e. not one complaint), but many of you feel they are too expensive.

* Most were very satisfied with my e-Books, but many of you have already read too many books, don’t have time to read, or feel they are too expensive.

* 60% of you want a place to communicate with one another on a message board / forum.

* 52% of you are interested in tele-seminars, while 25% of you are interested in premium content.

And, now for some good news and bad news! The good news is I heard you loud and clear about the pricing on my e-Books. To be honest, it’s been the hardest part about having this website is how to price those. On the one hand, someone can buy your book and e-mail it to their 100 closest friends (not that you are technically supposed to or anything) as opposed to letting one neighbor borrow a physical book. On the other hand, you want it to be affordable to a lot of people. Too cheap and people think it’s horrible before they even buy it (some psychology about sales). I have also compiled what I have read in many sources into one easy-to-read book, so the goal is to save you from buying 3-4 full-length books and instead, just one quick-read (but useful) book, but many of you have already read several books. Tricky.

All that to say that we now have “vacation specials” going on and you can purchase the books at a discount until August 1st (and I promise the 100% guarantee is legit and all you need to do is e-mail me!). If pricing goes well, I may need to make a permanent change. Go ahead and take a look and see for yourself:

Help Your Child Sleep, a Step-by-Step Guide – For those persistent nighttime struggles with a touch of naps

Mastering Naps & Schedules, including over 40 sample schedules

And, now for the bad news. Unfortunately, I’m unable to change the sleep consultation prices. The Sleep Helpdesk is pretty busy, already, and I spend a good 20-30 minutes on many of the e-mail responses (and I type fast!) as they are highly personalized, so I simply can’t afford to reduce the prices. I think many people think two e-mail (which costs $19.95 right now) won’t be enough, but you’d really be surprised how far we can get in just one e-mail!

Lastly, for those who don’t quite understand how the Sleep Helpdesk works (and want to know), I’ve made a tour, video and test login for you to test drive. I welcome feedback on making it more useful, if you have any. Just comment below!

I have taken this survey very seriously. Stay tuned as I work on what’s next for The Baby Sleep Site™ and I want to thank you for your continued participation in the The Baby Sleep Site™ community! I hope you are finding all the resources you need. Be sure to e-mail me with any article ideas if there is anything you have been looking for and haven’t been able to find.

And, finally, a quick reminder that I will be on a much-needed vacation July 25-Aug 1, so the Sleep Helpdesk will be closed, but you can always enter information and I’ll catch up when I get back! If you decide to purchase a 30-day unlimited e-mail package, I will extend your subscription to accommodate my vacation.

Next week you’ll still get the next installment of the Night Terrors and Nightmares Series, even though I will be on the beach. Enjoy! :) May everyone sleep well while I’m gone!

I also wanted to remind you that I will be taking a much-needed vacation this month. Keeping Track of it All, Win Some $$, and More Advice!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Track Baby SleepBecoming a mom was one of the best moments of my life, but it has also been more tiring and challenging than I ever could imagine! Everyone tells you your life is never the same, but until you go through it, you just don’t “get it”. Of course, the fact your life is never the same is a good thing. I can’t imagine my life without my kids and I can *barely* remember what life was before I had them (okay maybe a little sometimes lol).

I have had many parents tell me they feel silly for obsessing so much or thinking or worrying too much about this or that, especially about sleep and schedules. And, I always tell them “You are not alone!”. Not only have *I* been there, but so many other parents are right where you are too RIGHT NOW.

One of the most challenging parts about being a mom is figuring out what my boys need, especially when they were babies and couldn’t talk (although even when they can talk it doesn’t mean they (or you) know what’s wrong either!). Is he crying or cranky because he’s hungry, tired, over-stimulated, cold, hot, or what? I also struggled so much with my son’s sleep that it became somewhat of an obsession. I had an Excel spreadsheet tracking his sleep and I’d make little notes about feedings, thinking that maybe what he was eating was affecting his sleep.

I am a very analytical person, so this is just what I do. I wanted to “see” how he was sleeping and see if I could figure out any patterns. What was I missing? What was his schedule? Why did he wake up last night? What happened yesterday? Did he “forget” to poop yesterday and that’s why his tummy might be bothering him? How could I gain more insight into my baby?

Well, Aruni Gunasagarem (she is amazing!) took it a few steps further than I did and recognized that she was not alone in wanting to gain insight into her baby. After I started this website, Aruni reached out to me and we got to know each other, and now I’m very pleased and excited to announce that I have now become the VP of Product Development for Babble Soft, her other “baby”. With Babble Soft’s online software, Baby Insights, it’s easy to do what I was trying to do with my little Excel spreadsheet. It helps you track schedules and keep track of feedings, etc. I wish this software existed years ago! (Not to mention how easy their baby books would have been with Baby Say Cheese!)

One of my first tasks at Babble Soft has been to bring a mobile web application on board and we have done just that! Now, using your iPhone (and soon your Blackberry or other cell phone), you can enter your baby’s information, even when you are out and about or your spouse can see what baby is up to from work and feel that much more a part of her day. It has been really exciting to be a part of Babble Soft and to help parents parent in the Web 2.0 world, where paper and pencil just doesn’t cut it anymore. Babble Soft also has a survey right now where you have a chance to win up to $450 in prizes, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Please stop by and fill out the quick survey and buy something nice for your sweetie.

One last thing is if you have enjoyed hearing me “talk” about baby sleep, you might enjoy hearing me talk about other topics, too! At Babble Soft, we just started a new blog where we will write articles with parenting tips and advice, and not just about sleep! Don’t miss any posts and sign up now for free updates!

Thank you for letting me share my news with you! I’m very excited!
