  1. Thank you very much for all this valuable information. Essential oils are very helpful for me, I also put a lavender plant in the bedroom to bring about sleep the natural way.

I’ve been reading the blog posts for advice on my baby’s sleep. Just recently, I believe we’ve succeeded in sleep training my almost-8-month-old. At least for the night time.
But we still have two big problems to tackle: early wake time, and short naps during the day. Was wondering if we could get some advice.
    Some background:
We’ve been able to have him fall asleep on his own very easily at night, consistently at 7:30pm, but he’d always wake up at 5am, if not earlier. I’m talking full on screaming/crying, so it’s usually followed by a feeding. But he’s up and alert after the feeding, and would not go back down. Though we were overjoyed to claim success at training him to self settle, starting the day at 4:15am kind of strips away that sense of accomplishment. The baby doesn’t wake up at night, so there’s no feeding at night. I’ve tried to dream feed him at 4am, once, because it backfired where he ended up staying up from there.

As for naps, he’s gone back from 1 to two naps a day now, but every naps is under 45 minutes. For some reason he’d wake up, and couldn’t put himself back to sleep. But he’s clearly still sleepy, and would stay irritable for the rest of the day. He has finished teething for now, so we are not sure what the problem is.

      Hi Jaime,
Thank you for using The Baby Sleep Site as a resource, and congratulations on the progress you’ve made on your son’s sleep so far! I’m sorry to hear you’re still struggling with early waking and short naps. Both of these can, unfortunately, be caused be many different issues, perhaps the biggest being a problem with the schedule/ length of time between sleeps. We have a sample 8 month-old schedule here: https://www.babysleepsite.com/schedules/8-month-old-baby-schedule/
And an article on short naps and what can cause them here: https://www.babysleepsite.com/baby-naps-2/short-baby-naps-explained/

I hope those resources will help, but if you do continue to have trouble, please consider working with one of our sleep consultants directly with a package. Early waking and short naps are both complex issues with a lot of possible causes, and a consultant could review your family’s sleep history and schedules and really help nail down what’s going on. I hope this helps – good luck!
