Do you remember the time when you could travel anywhere at any time? And then, all of sudden – you can’t anymore. Even if you love it, or need it – you can’t really travel as you used before. Why? Well, after your kids arrive nothing is the same anymore. Traveling, driving, sleeping, eating – nothing is the same. You have to adjust. And fast. Having a child is going to turn your life upside down. No matter if your family is fully supportive and there for you. It doesn’t matter even if you have a nanny-team at your side. Your child needs you at all times, and after he or she arrives they will need your full attention. Day and night. Always. And even if nothing is the same, you love your little bundle of joy more than anything else in the world. And it is worth it. Absolutely.
But, does your life as you know it really has to be over once you got kids? Well, there is not a single answer to that question. It’s yes and no, at the same time. Life will change and in ways that you aren’t even aware of. But, after a little bit of adjusting and careful planning – you will be able to get back to the things you always loved. Give it some time and patience, and before you know it – things will get back to what they were before.
How to adjust?
Well, once your baby arrives – your life is going to change for sure. But, as soon as you give it some thought, you will be able to get back to your ordinary life. Here are some tips:
Make a plan
All you have to do is to come prepared. What does that mean? Babies don’t come out of nowhere. And you should start with preparations as soon as you hear the good news. The sooner you start, the sooner you will adjust. Plan everything in advance – and things will click at some point. All you have to do is to be flexible.
How about traveling?
Babies and small children can make your life more difficult if you don’t get prepared for travel in time. It may sound scary, silly, or even cruel to some – but it really is the truth. Completely and definitely. Even if you love your child more than anything else in the whole world – the sound of your child crying can be quite annoying. And if this sounds unreasonable, think about this – your child or children crying during the whole long-distance travel. It’s not a good vacation start. Not by far.
The strategy is the key
The same goes for traveling, moving nationwide or driving to a local grocery store. You need to know what you are doing. But, what does that mean for you? Well, you should make sure you come prepared. Allow your kid to explore the car before starting the engine. This is especially important if your child is traveling for the first time. You don’t want your kid to be afraid or disturbed in any way. So make sure that he or she is okay with it. Let your children know that driving in a car can be fun. Prepare a playlist that has all their favorite songs on it. Make it a fun experience and don’t let your children get stressed during long distance traveling. You can do it – you just have to believe in yourself.
Prepare your vehicle
You already know it – your vehicle must be clean and well-prepared before your child steps foot in it. And especially if it is a baby that we are talking about. The crying baby isn’t your biggest problem. What is? Your baby’s immune system isn’t as strong as yours is, and you will need to take every precaution in the book in order to keep your baby’s health intact.
Get your supplies – and try to avoid running out of them
We know you like travel. Most everybody does. But, once your baby arrives, you need to take care of some things before you even start thinking about enjoying your vacation. In order to avoid problematic situations along the way – you will need to obtain all the necessary baby supplies. Make a list and start from there. Our friends at bigapplemoving.com, who have a lot of experience in moving families with small children advise you to start on time. Even the smallest details that can easily slip your mind can create a huge problem somewhere on the road. And especially during long-distance travel. So – start early. Get a notebook or an app that can help you remember everything.
Airflow – something that you must keep in mind at all times
As we have mentioned before, your baby is sensitive. And one of many things that can harm your child’s health during long-distance travel is the air flow. No matter if it is air conditioning, or opened windows – it can harm your baby. And you don’t want your kid to be ill during your precious vacation. So, make sure you protect your baby from the air flow that seems like it could harm its health and wellbeing.
If you are planning on traveling a long distance, make sure you get some window shades for your vehicle. This way you will protect your baby’s skin from sunburns. And that is not all. You will allow him or her to sleep when he or she needs to. And your baby’s sleep rhythm matters a lot. Especially if you have a young baby. So – make sure you provide him or her with all you can – including window shades.
Every child is different, and no one knows your baby like you do. So – give it your best, and we are sure you will be able to take care of your child during long-distance travel!
