This article outlines the average 11-month-old baby schedule, including milk feedings for breastfeeding and formula-feeding babies, solids, naps, and nighttime sleep.
11 Month Old’s Sleep and Development
At this age, most 11 month olds can sleep through the night, without a feeding. Babies this age take 2 naps for a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day plus 11-12 hours at night. A very small percentage transition to one nap as early as 10 months, but not many, so assume 2 naps unless you are certain.
My eldest son did transition to one nap one week before his first birthday, so it was in the 11th month that I started seeing his morning nap get later and later. Most babies get very very overtired and sleep can spiral out of control, so I always recommend keeping two naps as long as possible.
The average age to transition to one nap is 15-18 months. My younger son seemed to start to transition to one nap around the same time, but went back to two naps within a week or two and continued taking two naps until 15 or 16 months. It makes me think my older son would have gone back to two naps, too, had I given him more time to try. Learn from me. Your 11-month-old should be taking 2 naps per day for a total of 2-3 hours per day plus 11-12 hours at night. Wake windows at this age are typically 3-4 hours at a time. If you’re having trouble with naps, you might be interested in helping your baby nap.
Although many babies can go all night without a single feeding, in my experience, some do better with one feeding after 4 or 5 a.m. and sleep longer than not feed and get an early wake-time. I would need to know your specific situation to make a recommendation, but just recognize that all babies are different. By this age, I would not expect more than one feeding, typically, if any at all. I would recommend at least an attempt at night-weaning because it is a chicken and egg problem. It’s hard to encourage more eating during the day when he is eating at night and it’s hard to discourage eating at night when he isn’t eating more during the day.
Wake Windows for 11 Month Olds
The typical wake windows for an 11-month-old are 3-4 hours. Usually, that first wake window is around 3 to 3 1/2 hours, the second window is around 3 1/2 hours, and then they stay awake 3 to 4 hours before bedtime.
11 Month Old Feeding
Breast milk or formula should be the primary nutrition for the first year and solids come secondary. Below are the amounts we recommend.
The amount of food at 11 months is very similar to 10 months, but your baby may be eating a little more.
Average amounts per day:
- At least 3-4 nursing sessions per day or 24-32 ounces formula or combination of both
- No more than 6-8 oz of water or juice (to ensure they drink enough breast milk or formula)
- 2 servings (1 serving = 1-2 Tablespoons dry) baby cereal
- 2 servings grain (1 serving = 1/2 slice bread, 2 crackers, 1/2 cup Cheerios, or 1/2 cup whole grain pasta)
- 2 servings fruit (1 serving = 3-4 Tablespoons)
- 2-3 servings vegetable (1 serving = 3-4 Tablespoons)
- 2-3 servings protein (1 serving = 1-2 Tablespoons)
- 1 serving Dairy (1 serving = 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/3 cup cottage cheese, or 1 oz grated cheese)
You can also offer cooked egg yolk (check with your doctor)

Sample 11 month old schedule
The first schedule is what I call a “staggered” approach. My first son did better nursing fully and then had solids a bit in between nursing sessions. He was a little hungry but not famished. He just didn’t do well with stopping nursing mid-way to eat solids.
7:00 – Wake and Breast milk or Formula
9:00 – Breakfast
10:00 or 10:30 – Morning Nap (at least 1 hour)
11:00 – Breast milk or Formula plus snack
1:00 – Lunch
2:00 or 2:30 – Early Afternoon Nap (at least 1 hour)
3:00 – Breast milk or Formula plus snack
5:00 – Dinner
6:15 – Begin bedtime routine
7:00 – Breast milk or Formula and Bedtime (goal to be asleep at this time)
If your baby doesn’t mind a more “consolidated” approach to eating, like my second son, here is another type of schedule:
Schedule 2
7:00 – Wake
7:15 – Breakfast plus Breast milk / Formula feeding
9:15 – Snack
10:00 or 10:30 – Morning Nap (at least 1 hour)
12:00 – Lunch plus Breast milk / Formula feeding
2:00 or 2:30 – Afternoon Nap (at least 1 hour)
3:30 – Snack
5:00 – Dinner plus Breast milk / Formula feeding
6:15 – Begin bedtime routine
7:00 – Small BM/Formula feeding (possibly) and Bedtime (goal to be asleep at this time)
Note: When giving any feedings during your bedtime routine, be careful not to create sleep associations, which we saw become important at 4 months old.

My daughter is a few days short of 11 months. We’ve been trying different wake times and she would finally nap longer than an hour if we put her down at 10:15am (until 11:30) and 3pm (until 4/4:15pm). I feel like we can’t seem to get her bedtime right. We put her down between 7:45 and 7:55pm. The first night she did great and slept until 6:55am. Then she started waking up in the middle of the night crying. She is teething but I don’t think it would cause this. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong? Is she over or under tired?

I am having trouble getting my 11 month old on a schedule or finding the appropriate wake time. Her first nap is 2.5 hours and that works well. Her second nap we have tried 2.5 and 3 hours but it takes us having to go in to check the diaper, sometimes feed her, and then putting her back in and then she falls asleep at the 4 hour of wake time mark. Should we extend the wake time to 3.5 hours? I am worried she will become overtired and won’t fall asleep. We have also tried schedule but she does not seem to adjust so we go back to wake times. We are all over the place. Help!

Hello, I have an issue. My 11 month old baby now is taking shorter naps, but the issues is that she always wait to do #2 when she naps and that is what makes her to wake up. Sometimes she does 30m naps or Max 1 hour. She was doing longer naps before one of two hours and the other one for one hour. She does sleep through the night but last night after one hour of sleeping she woke up crying bananas. We had to go check on her and put her back to sleep. Just as a note we always put her awake for both naps and bedtime and she puts herself to sleep. Are we experiencing a regression or mental development? She is now into standing and close to walking, could this be? Also do you suggest I feed her closer to her naps so we avoid the waking? Even though I don’t think she can digest so fast! Thanks
Hi @Natalia – Thank you for writing to us! Sorry to hear that your baby is having trouble with her sleep right now! Regarding her pooping during naptimes, you can always feed some breakfast foods that might help produce a poop before her nap, such as plums, pears, etc. Many families try to feed these early in the morning so that baby hopefully poops before the naptime! It is also a common time for sleep trouble in general, developmental leaps can always cause sleep disruptions, and around the 12 month mark is a common trouble spot. Have you read this article about sleep regressions?:

I hope that things smooth out Natalia! Please do contact us if you ever need more help!
hello! Thank you for the informative site! My almost 11 month old is a chronic early riser. He is in daycare 4 days a week and those days he usually takes 2 naps, of only a half hour each. he is then totally wiped and is usually asleep by 6:30pm. He then wakes at 5:30am (sleeps soundly through the night). Once in a while he’ll resettle and fall back to sleep for another half hour or so, but it’s rare. On his days at home he usually does 2 naps of about an hour each, still goes down around 6:30, but will often sleep until at around 6am or a little later. He seems to sleep better on the days when he naps longer, but they say they have tried everything and he just wont nap for longer than a half hour. Any advice on how to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning? I’m starting to think he’s just an early riser but I would love any advice you have!
Hi @Molly – Thank you for writing to us! So sorry to hear about your 11 month old baby’s early rising! Early rising can be so tricky to figure out and to help with, so we understand! Managing different sleep at daycare is really tough too, since it’s out of your control! If they cannot change the nap conditions a little for your little one, resulting in better naps there, you can always offer bedtime extra early on those short nap days! This article can help too!:
https://www.babysleepsite.com/how-we-sleep/baby-waking-too-early/
Hopefully this helps him sleep a little longer in the morning. If you need any additional help at any time, one of our consultants would love to take an in-depth look at his schedule and create a plan with you to help! Please feel free to contact us for more info if you need more help!
Thanks for your informative website.
My son is 11months old, he sleeps well at night but he dose not sleep well during the day. He just go for one nap during the whole day, and his nap dose not exceed half an hour.
What can I do to help him to take longer naps? Is one nap enough for him? He wakes up at 7am and go to bed at 8pm, he usually wakes up during night for feeding or just for a hug.
Thank you and I appreciate your help.
Hi @Amoom –
Thank you for writing to us! Sorry to hear that your 11 month old baby is taking only one short nap every day! As you likely read on this sample schedule page for 11 month olds, babies at this age typically take 2 naps. Feel free to make the schedule your own! Regarding the short naps, this article should be a very helpful place to start:
https://www.babysleepsite.com/baby-naps-2/short-baby-naps-explained/
I hope that things smooth out and your little guy is napping well soon! If you find that you ever need more assistance, please contact us! we’d love to help!

Any recommendations for getting twins to sleep through the night? We been doing a routine with bath time, reading, and brushing teeth. They are 11 months. One is better than the other. I dont know what different to do but give them a bottle
Hi Shelly,
Thank you for visiting us! I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with getting your twins through the night. Our answer on how to help would really depend on what’s going on, how often they’re waking, and what you’re doing to get them back to sleep. If you’d like to email us a little more about your situation to [email protected], we’d be happy to offer some more specific resources. In the meantime, we have an article that I think could help here: https://www.babysleepsite.com/twins-and-multiples/6-tips-to-help-you-have-your-twins-on-the-same-sleep-schedule/
Good luck!
My baby is turning 11 months on Sept 13. She’s been fighting all naps but the issue I have is now having to pick up my older daughter from school at 3:15. I have no other way around this – what advice do you have for the second nap?
Typical schedule
7 wake up
10:30- 11 nap
2:30-4 nap
7 bed
Thank you kindly
Hi Amber,
Thank you for checking out The Baby Sleep Site! Based on our sample 11 month-old schedule, it seems like the easiest thing you can do is shift your second nap of the day earlier. See our sample schedule here: https://www.babysleepsite.com/schedules/11-month-old-schedule/
If you happen to be a Baby Sleep Site member, I would recommend asking your question to one of the sleep consultants directly during a Member Chat. That way you can get direct advice based on your specific baby. I hope this helps, and good luck!
My daughter is 11 months and is still on 4 bottles a day plus another 1-2 overnight. I never really thought anything of it until today when a friend of mine said it’s excessive. Is my daughter overeating? She has 3 meals a day too plus snack. Do I need to cut down on the formula? If so, how? She obviously loves her bottle.
Hi @Emma – Thank you for writing to us! Your baby’s pediatrician would be the best person to ask about caloric intake for your little one! Her growth and development will show if she’s getting the right amount of food and formula! The general guidelines for ounces/tablespoons we list on this schedule are a good place to start, but every baby is different so for your peace of mind a call to your healthcare professional would be a good idea!
Because you’re wondering about cutting down on the formula, this a great little quiz that you can take on our blog to help you determine if you’re daughter is ready for night weaning:
https://www.babysleepsite.com/night-weaning-2/night-weaning-quiz/
Good luck and thanks again for visiting us Emma!!
I’m what I thought was an experienced mom of 5 but now that my nieces live with us they’re proving you never stop learning! My youngest niece is 11 months old and I’m dying for a good nights sleep. She falls asleep around 8:30, wakes no more than an hour later wanting another bottle or to be held. Will go back to sleep at wakes 2-3 hours again for a bottle. She does this all night. She’s then up around 7, has a diaper change, plays a bit and then breakfast. Then it’s usually a bottle or a little water and by 10 a nap. She doesn’t have many bottles during the day but eats solids wonderfully. She seems to want to cluster feed at night and does not sleep well at all. Help! I’m so exhausted.
Hi @Erin – Thank you for writing to us. I’m sorry to hear your niece is having sleep struggles! You’re not alone! Even the most experienced families can face sleep troubles!

Thank you so much for this site! My son is 11 months now and I have been coming here frequently to get advice, and “trouble shoot”. My son is trying to walk now and gets tired quick, we use to be ‘right on schedule ‘ with his naps. Wake at 7am, nap at 10… now he is tired by 9 so I put him down for a nap. He has gone back to 3 naps a day but it works well for him. Makes it hard for me again to get stuff done, but if I was working as hard has he is, I would be exhausted too!
Hi @Elissa – Thanks for sharing, and we’re SO happy to hear that the information has been helpful for you and your 11 month old! It sounds like you are both doing a great job! Thank you again for taking the time to let us know what’s working for your family, and keep reading! : )
